Conversion Handcross

Chris and team undertook a single story extension, and general ground floor refurbishment during Summer/Autumn 2021. From my first interaction with Chris it was clear that this was a builder who communicated really clearly and honestly, and this developed into a very trusting relationship.
The finished product (which included piling, groundworks, brickwork and structural steel, roofing and glazing, internal flooring, lighting, plumbing and final decoration) was completed to a high standard with specialist trades giving the same high quality finish.
We particularly valued the team's consideration for the family as we lived in during the build. They were polite, respectful and friendly at all times, and tried to facilitate general challenges of living through a building project.
I cannot recommend Chris highly enough.

D V Read & Son have built us two kitchen extensions (on different houses), the more recent of which was completed in 2021. On both occasions our experience was a good one and the completed extensions are of excellent quality. For our recent extension we used an architect to to draw up the plans but the great thing about D V Read is that Chris Read can manage the build from start to finish, including adapting the plans to cope with any unforeseen issues.
Other strengths of D V Read are their own team and the excellent relationships they have with firms of structural steel installers, bi-fold door suppliers, kitchen suppliers and flooring suppliers. D V Read's strong relationships with these firms means they are able to organise and co-ordinate with these suppliers on the client’s behalf.
In addition, but important for keeping stress levels down, Chris Read and his team are pleasant, polite and helpful and keep the site tidy. We can attest that D V Read has a long record of quality work and we would both use them again and recommend them unreservedly.

Chris and his team carried out a first floor extension for a new family bathroom for us in early 2021. We were very happy with the professional approach of the team and with the quality and care of the building work itself. Chris was quick to respond to any issues arising during the build and very accommodating of any late changes in details as things developed!

We have had Chris and his team complete 3 separate jobs, all of which to an extremely high standard. Initially a job left by a previous builder preparing the en-suite flooring. Following this Chris transformed a 1970’s style staircase with glass and new baluster and rails. Finally he addressed our leaky roof, built and installed fitted wardrobes along with correcting the snagging left by our previous builder. Extremely reliable, professional, polite and a great builder. I will be sure to use him again his craftsmanship is worth the wait.

Chris and his team refurbished our garage/ utility in summer 2021. What impressed me most was the guys in Chris’ team. Everyone was trustworthy, polite and professional and I had no qualms in leaving them alone in my house even though I barely knew them. All of them had a strong work ethic and they never seemed to stop working unlike some builders we’ve had who spent more time sat in their van than working!

Chris was very responsive to messages which was also really helpful and I also liked how he gave a very clear and itemised quotation before starting the work.

The standard of workmanship was excellent especially the fitting of the utility units. I wouldn’t hesitate in using Chris and his team again. Highly highly recommend! 5 ⭐️ service and results.

We asked Chris and the team to look at an extension to a 3 bed semi-detached property we had recently moved into as our family home. Leading up to the job Chris was very engaged in the preparation and clearly outlined costs, caveats and suggestions to make the work go smoothly before we agreed to begin the project. This was a big job for us, nearly doubling the size of the property, with work to the ground floor, 1st floor and roof, however Chris and his team took everything in their stride and were very easy to work with, everyone being professional, courteous and conscientious when on site.
All work was carried out to a high standard and it was clear to see everyone taking care to do the best possible job. Having two young children under 4 years old at the time and living in the property full time during the work we thought there might be some difficulties, but everyone made sure that all work was carried out in the least disruptive way possible making sure we could live comfortably and safely as a family. Chris was very communicative throughout the whole job, keeping us up to date with costs, timelines and what was going on. Suggestions on best approach were discussed from both sides and any extras that we chose were met readily without any difficulty.

Overall I was very pleased with the work throughout the duration of the project, I would have no hesitation in engaging with Chris and his team again to do more work for myself and I have recommended him to several friends and family since completion.

We have had the pleasure of working with DV Read & Son on two of our larger conversion projects in West Sussex. On both occasions we were reliant on our selected contractor to work closely and cooperatively with our commercial tenants and neighbouring buildings, which DV Read managed admirably. As a contractor they provide their clients with excellent workmanship, reliability, access to specialist trades and are led from the front by their director Chris Read.
